"Shalom" - the Hebrew greeeting, is also the word for "peace". "Shalom" is etched on this glass pendant in the Hebrew script of the 7th century B.C.E., which existed already in the period of the Judges 400 years earlier.
The shards of glass inlaid in this piece originate from fragments of glass vessels discovered in Israel, in the vicinity of the Mediterranean Sea Shore.
Note: To preserve patina do not allow glass to come in contact with water.
The finely wrought glass bottles and jars, dates 1st - 6th Century C.E., were created in Ancient Israel by craftsmen working with a blow-pipe at the glass furnace. Over the centuries these glass vessels gained additional charm from the iridescent coloring caused by the weathering of glass.
This item comes with a certificate of authenticity of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Enclosed is a small description of its historical background in English and Hebrew.
